By mentioning clotrimazole (Canestan) you apparently suspect a yeast infection, and your symptoms indeed are typical for yeast. If discharge is present, it can often have a "cottage cheese" appearance, but usually there isn't much discharge at all. It makes sense to try clotrimazole (or any other product with an "azole" active ingredient). But see your doctor right away if it doesn't seem to work.
