A member asked:

How soon after sexual encounter can you test for gonorrhea and chlamydia with a urine specimen? is five days long enough?

5 days should be an adequate time to test, but would suggest a urethral culture and gram stain, esp if there is any secretion/discharge noted. Would also check whether your partner was symptomatic/positive.

Five days is plenty of time for the standard chlamydia and gonorrhea tests to become positive. For women, a vaginal swab test is best: urine misses up to 10% of infections.
