I had protected sex 1 day before my period and my period stopped after one day. my pregnancy test is negative. what does it mean? should i take another test or go to a doctor?

Light bleeding ("period" stopped after one day) after sex may be due to cervical irritation bleeding, and not really a "period". A negative home pregnancy test may be negative because of delayed ovulation, so wait five days and obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.

Conception occurs within day or so of the sex. It takes about 3 weeks for the embryo to make enough HCG for a positive pregnancy test. Blood test may be done a day after a missed period. Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully.
