See OB GYN: Your OB will,discuss various options for birth control including hormonal pills/implants, male/female condoms, spermicidal gels, vaginal sponges, cervical caps, diaphragms, and sterilization. Weight gain is not an automatic with hormones, and newer meds have minimal side effects, but the barriers have no systemic medicines at all. The most important thing is finding YOUR best option.
