Safe sex: I agree with Dr. Kowk in relation to avoiding prevenancy. However, "safe sex" is most commonly used in relation to risk for HIV or STDs. From that standpoint, time of menstrual cycle makes no difference in STD/HIV risk.

Not necessarily: If you had unprotected sex you are neither safe from STDs nor pregnancy. Pregnancy is known to have occurred from sex on any and all days of the cycle.
