Not definitely: However we advise treatment for all who have had sex with an std positive partner as a sensible precaution & to prevent further spread of the disease.

What is the safest and most effective way to have sex and avoid an std?

Self masturbation: Thats pretty much it. If you have sexual contact with someone else, then you are at risk. Yes oral sex may be less risky for some things, like hiv, but for others like gonorrhea or hpv its still risky. Practice safe sex (condoms, etc..) always (even with oral sex) and keep safe and get tested frequently!

Yes: Yes, the hot water does nothing to help protect you. The hot tub has no effect on your risk of getting pregnant or getting an std.

No STD w/o contact: You must have some sort of sexual contact to pass an std from one person to another. This does not only mean vaginal intercourse though. Some STDs are passed by transmitting fluid from one to another. Others are passed by skin to skin contact. Penile, vaginal, anal, oral or even touching the genitals is required to pass an std.

Can you give a person a STD if don't you have but yourperiod come down while having sex?

That you don't have?: As with all things in life, you can't give it to anyone if you yourself don't have it. But, if a woman does have an std, she can give it to somebody else regardless of being on/off her period.

A 28-year-old male asked:
Is there any other way that somebody can get STD besides having sex?
1 doctor answer • 1 doctor weighed in

Dr. Martin Raff answered
Infectious Disease 56 years experience
Which STD?: The term std means "sexually transmitted disease". Some stds can conceivably be acquired other than sexually, but this is very uncommon. When my medical students tell me that their friend has an std i ask them to take out their 'friend" so that i can see it.
