How long does shingles rash last?

3 doctors weighed in across 4 answers

5-7 Days: Usually the shingles rash (and pain) may last 5-7 days but could be longer. Even with mild pain it is recommended to be treated with anti-virals to prevent long term problems such as post-herpetic neuralgia (long term nerve pain).

Shingles : Most cases of shingles last 3 to 5 weeks. Usually 1 to 5 days after one experiences pain/burning in a specific area, a rash with blisters appears. This may take a week to 10 days to dry up & become crusty. Usually within a couple of weeks the scabs resolve. REF: https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/shingles#catch
