Symptoms and testing: Some venereal diseases like gonorrhea and chlamydia have symptoms others like syphilis, hpv, aids and others may not have symptoms for many months or years and it can only be diagnosed by testing.

Testing: Many common STD's have no symptoms in a percentage of patients. Blood or urine tests are the primary tool for diagnosis & are recommended for those who are sexually active when exposure is likely. Without testing, you could have a significant problem like Syphilis for decades and never know it.
