A member asked:

Hi! my 6month old boy is constipated for quite a while now. i think it's been 2 weeks now. i help him poop with pressing his legs up to his stomach. sometimes something comes out but sometimes not. it really seems to hurt him. any advise?

Some basics: Constipation occurs when the stool remains inside long enough to bulk up or dry. This is often related at this age to changes in diet. Applesauce, bananas & rice cereal will naturally bulk & slow stooling. Juices like prune or apple will usually speed or loosen stools. Modifying diet to reduce the slowing agents can help.
