Some basic info: The present 9 strain HPV vaccine helps a person develop antibodies against the strains represented in the vaccine. That includes 7 associated with cancer & 2 with genital warts. It is hoped that those antibodies would stop infection by one of those strains if exposed. It does not treat or cure any previous HPV infection but helps avoid new ones.
