Change hand soap.: Maybe you were using a hand wash or hand soap that cause the irritation. Try using a soap such as dove.

Lube: KY jelly is popular. Hydrocortisone cream for a few days will stop the itch. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a poor alternative.
