It is recommended: that you allow one full cycle (28 or 30 days) while beginning an oral contraceptive pill (aka birth control) to make sure your body "absorbs" and metabolizes the new medication effectively. That means you should not have unprotected intercourse for 1 month. There is no knowing for sure if the OCP is effective now, so I would be on the lookout for symptoms of pregnancy to be sure.
