Because it matters: Several of the std's can be lifelong, deadly, cause sterility, be present without symptoms for years and return, etc. Unless you entered a relationship with a virgin as a virgin an neither of you ever stray (100%), periodic screening is a reasonable thing to do.That is if you want to avoid the potential problems.
