Yes, but rare.: Blood clots are a rare side effect of BCP"s. The chance is increased if you smoke or have a clotting disorder. Still, bcp's are safer than risks of pregnancy! Discuss the risk in your case, with your doc.

Yes: OCPs do increase your risk of blood clots. This risk is low in young, healthy women but can be significant some women with certain medical conditions. They are not recommended in women over age 35 who smoke or in women with combinations of age or medical problems such as diabetes and hypertension. If you are a smoker, have a medical condition or are over age 35, you should ask your doc!
