Sounds like herpes: Typical story for initial genital herpes. I hope your genital sore(s) were tested for HSV by PCR or culture (PCR is best). If positive, make sure the virus is typed, i.e. HSV1 or HSV2, which is very important in predicting future course, need for ongoing Rx, and preventing transmission to partners. If herpes, symptoms should start improving soon on valacyclovir (Valtrex). Get partner(s) checked.

For an initial (primary) infection with multiple blisters or sores, it will take several days, even a week or more. For recurrent herpes, improvement should begin within 1-2 days and complete healing in a week or so. For frequently recurring herpes, the best approach usually is continuous treatment with Valtrex to markedly reduce outbreak frequency and risk of transmission.
