If it is lasting: more than 7 days then it is a prolonged period. It can have several causes such as hormonal imbalance in particular if there is excessive progesteron, stress, trauma to vagina, polyps, pcos, etc. If this happens again see your gyn. If it does not happen again do not worry about it.
