See below: There are several causes for anal pain, but if the pain is severe, lasts from a few seconds to a few minutes, only comes intermittently and there is no rectal pain between episodes,it's likely a condition called Proctalgia fugax. Several causes have been implicated including spasm of anal muscles and pudental nerve compression. Treatments include topical medications and nerve blocks,among others.
