NSAIDS: Most people can take them without any difficulty. However, they can cause GI issues like ulcers and can affect the kidneys also. So just be careful using them longer than what is needed to help the injury. Have you tried the topical voltaren (diclofenac) gel?

The most important: Thing you can do for yourself is treat that stubborn injury. So walking regularly is not so good. You need to either stay off the foot, or walk with a surgical shoe or turf toe plate. During propulsion when the joint bends this is not good for you as it doesn't allow for proper healing. The NSAID doesn't fix the problem. Topical s are an option but, voltaren (diclofenac) gel is likely not strong enough.

Talk to your doctor: If you are tolerating the medication, and it is providing benefit you and your doctor can decide if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. All nsaids have a black box warning regarding cardiovascular risk. That being said, many patients safely use this medicine and other nsaids for months or years without problems. Also talk to your doctor about other options you have available.
