Small Blister: Herpes usually looks like a small blister. Classically, the blister or blisters appears to be on top of red skin. These blisters can be found on the genitals and can also be found on other areas. Often they are very painful. The fluid found within the vesicle contains the virus and is very contagious.

Varies: Herpes of the genital area can just be a reddened area but classically is a small group of clear blisters. This area is paiful, tingles and can get crusty. It is like a fever blister (only it is not a fever blister). Usually clinically diagosed but can absolutely be diagnosed if cultured and positive.
