Is a sore on lip automatically herpes?

No: It could be, but could be a variety of other causes. If its not healing, best to have it checked by a doctor to make sure it is not cancerous.

NO!: In addition to herpes labialis, a sore could be a canker sore, or a chancre of syphilis! rarely, a sore could be a presentation of a tumor. Some sore are stress or hormone related. Herpes usually starts with a tingly feeling on the lip and then an eruption of small blisters which rupture and scab over and then heal in about a week.
