Can a anal fissure heal it's self?

Yes: They are very painful and can take a long time to heal, but they can heal by themselves. The medications only really help with pain, they don't actually cause healing to occur.

Yes: Most do with high fiber diet and fluids, this will keep your bowels soft and fissures usually heal on their own. For persistent or recurrent fissures treatment with certain topical prescription or compounded creams or even Botox my help....Rarely is surgery needed. Hope this helps.

Yes: 50% of fissures will heal on their own. 76 - 86% of fissures can be healed with the use of ointments. The gold standard therapy that cures 97% of fissures is a lateral internal sphincterotomy, however it carries a risk of about 1% fecal incontinence. Because of this risk, though small, we reserve the surgery only for patients that have failed the ointments, or absolutely refuse ointments.
