The : The short answer here is that herpes virus is contagious wheter or not you have active lesion, although a greater chance to be transmitted when active lesions are present. If oral sex is performed by either partner, the person performing the act is susceptible to contracting the virus and thus at risk for a herpes outbreak on the mouth, in the mouth, and even throat in some cases. No risk!: If you're now only having sex with one partner who also has HSV of the same type as you (either HSV1 or HSV2), you need not take any precautions at all. People are immune to new infections, anywhere on the body, with the HSV type they already have. All sexual practices between you are safe. For comfort, best avoid sex when either of you has an outbreak. Otherwise no worries at all!
