Yes: This is known as priapism and is dangerous for the penis. Any erection that lasts for more than 3 to 4 hours must be immediately evaluated as this can lead to scarring in the penis and cause future erectile dysfunction and curvature to the penis. It generally has to be treated with a penile injection of medications to resolve the erection.

Yes: Erections that last for hours can result in severe penile injury and damage. Priaprism, a sustained firm erection unrelieved or unrelated to sexual activity and not relieved by ejaculation is an emergency requiring treatment by a urologist.
