The most dangerous effect of this virus is that it can lead to cervical cancer in women. We know that over 95 % of cervical cancer is caused by hpv, and that is found early, cervical cancer can be eradicated. Therefore, it is important to see you gynecologist or family doctor to have regular testing for cervical cancer (pap smears and/or dna testing for the hpv virus). Current guidelines recommend women have cervical cancer screening exams every 1-3 years depending on a variety of variables such as age and risk factors.

HPV is a virus: Hpv is human papilloma virus that can be transmitted during sex. The virus causes pre cancerous conditions of the cervix, vagina, or vulva. Over time, if not treated, these skin changes can develop into cervical or vaginal or vulvar cancer. Many people have hpv but have no symptoms. As of right now there is no medicine to get rid of hpv once it is there.
