Spotting: Depo provera, (medroxyprogesterone) or the birth control shot, is known for causing irregular bleeding and spotting. Usually by the second shot this goes away entirely but for about 1-2 in 10 women who use this method, spotting and bleeding continue which force then to use a different method. The other 80% usually have no cycle or bleeding at all, which is normal.
