Definition depends..: Castration usually implies males. Surgical castration is removal of the gonads, or testicles in men. Medical castration is the administration of testosterone blocking hormones. In females, removal of the ovaries; called oophorectomy, or spaying in animals, could be considered castration since the ovaries are the female gonads.
