No: Herpes is not one of the viruses known to cause cancer. Hepatitis b virus causes liver cancer, and human papilloma virus causes cervical cancer. Herpes viruses live in the nerves and just come out to the skin once in a while to cause sores (clusters of tiny blisters). Then the herpes virus goes away until the next time a new sore develops.

No.: Genital herpes, caused by hsv - herpes simplex virus, does not turn into cancer. You may be confusing this with another common std, genital warts, caused by hpv - human papilloma virus. Some "high risk" strains of hpv may lead to cervical (or anal or oral) cancer. Women should see their gyn for a pap smear which is used to find it at the earliest stages. There is no blood test for hpv.
