Not unexpected: Dark brown discharge is generally "old blood" and tissue from the lining of the uterus. Hormones from the birth control pill have changed the character of flow for this cycle. Continue your pills and your next period should have a more normal pattern. If you continue with concerns see your doctor for further evaluation.
