A member asked:

How is cortaid (hydrocortisone) cream used for herpes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Don't use!: Cortaid (hydrocortisone) should never be used on herpes, and can make the herpes worse! Cortaid (hydrocortisone) is a topical steroid, and steroids weaken the immune system. Herpes is viral infection, and your immune system needs support to fight it off. If it is a milder outbreak, you can try over-the-counter abreva 5 times a day for up to 10 days, but if not improving or if bad outbreak, see your dr for prescription treatment.
