A member asked:

Is surgery common on the anal sphincter(s) when it cannot relax to allow smooth defecation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MayB biofeedback 1st: Anal manometry, if performed next, may confirm pelvic floor dysfunction +/- rectal dyssynergia for which biofeedback (pelvic retraining) may help. Please talk with your doctor about this option before considering irreversible surgery.
