Does antibiotics affect the birth control patch?

Depends on the drug: Only rifampin makes Ortho Evra patch less effective unlike oral contraceptives which is greatly affected by many antibiotics due to that fact that in addition to killing the bacteria responsible for causing infection, antibiotics also kill the normal bacteria that live in the stomach (normal flora) that are responsible for activating the birth control pill. Never hurts to have partner wear condom.
