3-4 months: You can expect the effects of Depo-Provera, both the contraceptive effects and the side effects to last at least as long as the recommended period between Depo shots. Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) suppresses the production of estrogen. Depending on the type of side effects you're having, temporary supplementation with estrogen may help mitigate these side effects.
