Could: Be the se thing and the same cream would work, or another infection of it doesn't that would need you to go back to the doctor for evaluation and further treatment

Also incomplete treatment may cause apparent healing, but if your antifungal is not used as directed for as long as directed the infection can recur. This is a big problem if resistant yeast organisms survived and then proliferated. That is precisely the reason doctors are so insistent that you continue treatment as Prescribed even if you feel better.

In a follow-up message you asked what else it could be. One possibility is a bacterial infection called erythrasma, but there are others. However, jock itch is by far the most likely. Don't worry about other things unless and until you try proper treatment and it doesn't work.
