A member asked:

If i take over-the-counter estrogen pills for breakthrough bleeding while on nexplanon will the effectiveness of the birth control be affected?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No OTC estrogen: There are no OTC estrogens. There are OTC meds that claim to estrogenic activity, but estrogen requires a prescription. Plan B, which OTC, is a progestin. If you took prescription estrogen while on Nexplanon, it would not effect the birth control, and may stabilize the endometrium, decreasing the bleeding. Talk to your GYN.
