First sex: The normal hymen is a ring of folded tissue around the vagina opening. If you've had periods, odds are you've got a normal hymen. It's a common myth that the hymen has to be pierced or broken and must bleed with first sex: in fact, the ring of skin just stretches open. Small skin splits might happen with sex but are definitely not inevitable. So, no, bleeding is not expected with sex.
