Intrauterine device: Age and hormones don't mix well. The risk of blood clotting increase dysproportionately, that is, the risk is much higher than in a younger woman. An intrauterine device may be a good option, especially a copper T IUD. It lasts for 10 year, so likely into menopause, and they are worry free other than that they cause some women to have longer and heavier periods.
