Yes: Laboratory tests can be used to diagnose herpes simplex virus. A dna blood test (blood, lesion, spinal fluid) can be used ; will differentiate hsv1 ; hsv2.Blood is used to detect hsv antibodies. A viral culture can be done w scraping of a lesion.
