Likely normal: Usually it is normal variation if a period occasionally goes on longer than usual. If a woman spots for days at the end of her period for several months in a row then there may be an issue. Possible causes can be the Progesterone hormone is low or a growth such as a polyp on the cervix or in the uterus. There is no medical reason to avoid sex while on the period.
