Can you tell me is "std" a misleading term?

It is descriptive.: It refers to diseases that are primarily transmitted through sexual contact. There may also be non- sexual modes of transmission (i.e. Infection of baby in birth canal). There are some diseases that might be transmitted via sex (i.e. Yeast) but this is the not the primary mode of transmission ; they aren't consider std's.
