Chlamydia trachomatis is the bacteria that causes the sexually transmitted disease. Symptoms include a more persistent dry, scratchy sore throat, pain with swallowing, fever and rarely a cough. One should see a doctor for any sore throat that lasts longer than 7-10 days.
