It's part of life: Sex is how all of us have gotten here. Sexual feelings are normal for both boys and girls starting at an early age and as they go through puberty. It is appropriate as one becomes older to express love through a mutually agreed upon sexual relationship.

To make babies!: "why" questions are hard to answer in the natural sciences, as they imply there's a purpose or intent. Biology usually relies on evolution principles to answer "why" questions. In this case, the good feelings from sex motivate the behavior, resulting in propagation of the species. If you seek a neurological explanation (how not why), perhaps a neurologist can answer.

Are people who don't have a lot of sex less happy and less healthy?

Not necessarily: Sexual involvement is one of the pleasures of being human but there are many alternative forms of recreation and mental stimulation and pleasure. Some religious disciplines require the foregoing of sex and the adherents find spiritual pleasure to be equally satisfying. Happiness and health are spread thoughout many elements of the population.

Sex: It is doubtful that anything specific is going to change your anatomy, but the best thing to do is to keep yourself healthy and strong with good diet, exercise and lots of sexual activity. That should keep those organs available for more.

How much sex is it considered to be healthy?

It depends...: I don't think there is a single answer and it depends on the context. Is this sex in a loving relationship and/or masturbation? A couple making love 2 or 3 times a day could be healthy but for how long? Can one have too much of a good thing? If this is not being done in an obsessive-compulsive way and not preventing one from fulfilling their responsibilities then it is not too much...

Another key factor is your sex drive. Some people have low libido and are content having little if any sex, for some once month, for some once a week, for some once or twice a day; it depends on what makes you (and your partner) happy. As for the health aspects, this appears to be more important for men, as men who ejaculate several times a week have a reduced risk of prostate cancer.
