Atherosclerosis: When plaque forms in an artery, the ways may thicken and thus the term "hardening of the arteries". This is not the same as blockages but, should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon.

They feel thickened and firm. The are "rusty" because of body genes and how you feed them: High blood lipids, pressure and smoking. Review with your Dr.
