Infection: Different types of infections can cause inflammation of the cervix. Cervicitis by itself is not dangerous, but the infection can spread to other organs and lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. You need to have the etiology of cervicitis sorted out, with the help of your doctor, and take prescribed treatment to prevent more trouble.
