A member asked:

4 yr. old biting her arm and fingers at school when bored. is it okay/normal? teacher says when she keeps her busy she doesn't do it as much

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Needs redirection: If your child is biting herself when bored or stressed, it is best to give her other activities to keep her busy. Gentle redirection can help, but don't make a big deal about it or it may become a power struggle. Sometimes, a substitute can be used- a stress ball or a "worry stone". If it continues to be a problem, check with a child therapist.
