Not necessarily: In general you shouldn't need a pain medication just for a pelvic exam. There may be some exceptions to that and some of it may depend on why you need a pelvic exam in the first place. If this is to be your first, or if you have a reason to be very anxious about it, talk with your doctor openly and up front so s/he can work with you to make it more comfortable for you.
