Unlikely a diet issu: Kids with platelet counts it that range often have a burned out idiopathic thrombocytopenia on an immune basis. Over the next several years the count may return to normal. If you haven't already, i would consult with a pediatric hematologist on the issue.

The cause of the reduced platelet count should be further evaluated. A CBC, differential and smear report may provide additional information. A Hematology consult is often helpful, but a lab error can occur. Watch for bruising, bleeding and please follow up.
