Depends on cause: A physiatrist, or doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation can evaluate the individual and come up with a plan to maximize function. The prognosis depends on the cause of the symptoms.

Depends: Depends on what is causing it. Using your muscles if the main stay treatment of atrophy, but if you have a disease that does not allow this then you really need to be evaluated by a pmr physician to come up with a plan of treatment.
