A member asked:

Why is it common to intubate the right mainstem in a child?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The angle favors it.: Anatomically the right lung's mainstem bronchus branches off the trachea at a shallow angle closer to a straight line. The left mainstem bronchus meanwhile branches almost perpendicularly at a 90 degree angle off the trachea--making it much more difficult to place an endotracheal tube into the left-side of the lung.
