Menstrual spotting: Dark red spotting after a period is very common at the end of a menstrual cycle. The dark color of the blood is a result of a slower rate of bleeding, which then forms clots and then gets expelled from the vagina at a slower rate than at the beginning of the cycle. It usually does not represent anything harmful. If it continues, seek medical consultation to determine the cause.
