Periodic: Usually the periodic character of anything that you feel, and it s progression, can be a sign that you need to be checked. Not always contractions feel like you would imagine. Best luck !

Talk to doctor: Talk to your obstetrician as soon as possible. You are at or close to full term now, and going to deliver soon. Your obstetrician knows you, and can guide you as to timing and length of contractions. This is most likely your first pregnancy from your question, so don't do this alone. Get the guidance you need from your doctor.

Confusing: Irregular contractions, where some are not as strong as others, that might change with ambulation or rest are likely not 'real' contractions. As i like to say, "it is confusing until it is obvious". This is often the case with labor. When you are in labor, you will know. If you are not entirely certain, then run it by your OB so they can decide if you need to be seen.

Severity: True contractions are extremely painful. They come very regularly and become progressively worse. False labor is painful also, but not as frequent or severe.
